 died Saturday evening (February 4, 2012) at his home, following a long illness.  

A native & lifelong resident of Hornell, he was born July 17, 1925, and was the son of Dominic & Palma (Colamarino) Daniels.

Angelo was a graduate of St. Ann’s School and Hornell High School (class of 1944).  He later attended the Manhattan Vocational School in New York City.  He was a veteran of the US Army during WWII and a member of the 89th Reconnaissance.   He served in Remagin, Germany, Czechoslovakia and Berlin and was honorably discharged on July 4, 1946.

In 1951, he began his employment with the V.A. Medical Center, Bath, NY where he worked in the Supply Division until his retirement in 1985.  

Angelo was a member of Our Lady of the Valley Parish and a communicant of St. Ann’s Church where he served as an usher for many years.  He was a Charter Member & Life Member of the Maple City Lions Club; a Life Member of the Carducci Lodge (Sons of Italy); Knights of Columbus; Hornell American Legion and the Twin Hickory Golf club.

He was married to the former Joanne M. Gibbs on April 16, 1966 at Immaculate Conception Church in Wellsville.  Together they enjoyed traveling to Florida where they resided during the winter months.

Angelo was an avid golfer, enjoyed volunteer work especially delivering Meals-On-Wheels, and in his younger years enjoyed singing with various local bands.  In 1975, he served as a pageant judge for the Miss Allegany County Pageant where the winner went on to the Miss New York State Pageant followed by the Miss America Pageant.  Angelo was an avid reader who especially enjoyed readings on history.  He loved all family gatherings and enjoyed having daily coffee with his friends at the Texas Café.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Antoinette Caruso who died in 1993; his brothers, Joseph Daniels who died in 1998, Anthony “Dan” Daniels who died in 1999, Sylvester “Babe” Daniels who died in 2000, Nicholas Daniels who died in 2001; his niece, Amelia Caruso Doland who died in 1994.

Surviving are his wife of 45 years, Joanne; his nephews, Leonard (Kathy) Caruso, Dominic (Sherry) Daniels, Joseph (Marcia) Daniels, Michael (Karen) Daniels; his nieces, JoAnn (Ron) LaVerde, Mary Ann Albright, Francis (William) Tucker, Angela (David) Markel, Pamela (William) Fenlon, Diane (Michael) Sufra; several cousins and other nieces & nephews.

The family of Angelo A Daniels will receive friends on Tuesday from 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM and 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM at the Dagon Funeral Home, 38 Church St., Hornell, NY.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 10:00 AM at St. Ann’s Church with burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Angelo’s family request that memorial contributions in his name be made to St. Ann’s Church, 27 Erie Ave., Hornell, NY 14843 or to the G. Cardci Lodge Building Fund, 70 Erie Ave., Hornell, NY 14843. Memorial forms will be available at the Dagon Funeral Home.

In recognition of Angelo’s service to his country during WWII, the American Flag will be flown at Half-Staff at the Dagon Funeral Home.
