John Lee Jamison, 71,
of 37 Stephens Street, Canisteo,
passed away unexpectedly Monday (March 4, 2013) at his home.
Born in Hornell, March 1, 1942, the son of John R. and Evelyn Brenning Jamison, he had resided in Canisteo all his life. He was a graduate of Canisteo Central School, Class of 1959 and had attended Alfred University. He retired in 1996 as a civil engineer with the New York State Department of Transportation in Hornell following 35 years service. He had served as past president of the New York State Engineers Association. John Lee was a member of the Hornell Elks Lodge, the Hornell Association, the Hornell Moose Lodge and the Canisteo American Legion Post. Active in sports, John Lee played football and basketball while in High School and enjoyed being a basketball official for the IAABO Board #156 for 35 years. He officiated at both boy’s and girl’s high school basketball games as well as girl’s college games. He was an avid New York Yankee’s fan as well as a Cleveland Browns fan. He enjoyed playing baseball on the Canisteo Town Team and playing slow pitch with his buddies. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed league playing at both the Hornell Country Club and Twin Hickory.
He was predeceased by his parents, as well as Warren and Lillian Wilson, with whom he made his home for much of his life.
He is survived by his long time friend and soul mate, “Maggie” Ahearn of Canisteo, as well as her family, Mick (Gail Updyke) Ahearn of Greenwood, and Mark (Shannon Murphy) Ahearn of Florida and Maggie’s grand children, Natasha (Ryan) Phillips, Ashley, Trent, Mark, Madison, and Tyler Ahearn, also Maggie’s siblings, Mary Obrochta, Junie (Helen) Coots, Jerry (Pat) Coots, Richard Barrett, Larry (Sue) Bennett and Deanie (Pat) Brady, his aunt, Myrtle Jamison of Canisteo, several cousins and his “Furry Friend”, “Joey”.
