Mary Lois Murphy, 83,

 passed away peacefully Friday morning, February 8, 2013.

 

   A Hornell native, she was the daughter of Warner James and Virginia Hill Murphy.  In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her three brothers, William “WT”, Richard, Norman, her sister-in-law, Rosemary “Mitizie” and her nephew, Thomas Murphy.

 

  Upon her graduation on June 23, 1947 from Hornell High School, she started work for the former Empire Foods. Mary Lois started her career on April 24, 1950 as a clerk in Bookkeeping at the Steuben Trust Company in Hornell, and retired after 40 years of service.

 

  Mary Lois was a former member of St. Ignatius Loyola Church and a communicant of St. Ann’s Church in Hornell. She was a former regent of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas as well as a Past President of the Hornell Women’s Bowling Association. She spent many vacations at the beach where she enjoyed her favorite pastime reading. A true Irish Lass Mary Lois’ favorite holiday was St. Patrick’s Day.

 

    Mary Lois was loved by her family and will be greatly missed; her family includes her sister-in-law, Marilyn Murphy of Hornell; her nieces and nephews, William T. (Gail) Murphy II of Hornell, Deborah (Larry) Lyke and Jennifer (John) Beckerman all of Michigan, Bridget Murphy of Amsterdam, N.Y., Timothy Murphy of Illinois, Ann (Mike) Gonzales and Susan (Dale) Gargiulo all of Rochester and Patricia (Todd) Church of Virginia; also 7 great nieces and nephews and 19 great-great nieces and nephews and several cousins; she will be greatly missed by her dear friends, Mary Ellen (Paul) Gabriel of Florida.

 

   Mary Lois’ family will greet friends from 10-11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Ann’s Church in Hornell, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Committal prayers and interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Town of Fremont.

 

  In lieu of flowers, those wishing may contribute in her memory to the Hornell Public Library, 64 Genesee St., Hornell, N.Y. 14843 (envelopes will be available at the church) or to the charity of the donor’s choice.

 

  Arrangements are with the Bishop & Johnson Funeral Home, Inc., 285 Main St., Hornell.
