Congressman Reed: Unemployment Rates in the Southern Tier: "Truly Disturbing"
March 13, 2013
WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congressman Tom Reed says that the combined January unemployment rate reached 11.2 percent in Chemung, Schuyler and Steuben counties, marking the highest unemployment rate since at least 1990. “These numbers are truly disturbing,” said Rep. Tom Reed. “To have historic high unemployment here in the Southern Tier puts an even stronger emphasis on the need for a long-term, comprehensive plan of action. Our small businesses – our job creators – are suffering and need action from Washington.”
Reed says that he is working toward a comprehensive approach through his position on the Ways and Means Committee where comprehensive tax reform is the priority, working on legislation to cut through regulations and highlight government waste, fraud and abuse, and co-chairing the House Manufacturing and Natural Gas Caucuses.
