The following is a transcript of the show's segment:
Nojay: "'Shinagawa Ready to Face Reed.'" Now you should be impressed that I know how to pronounce 'Shinagawa'. Shinagawa ready to face Reed, he's the guy who won the Democrat Primary, he hails from the People's Republic."
Gullo: "He's gonna lose. Just because of his name."
Nojay: "Now that's not a particularly nice thing to say."
Savage (in Oriental accent): "Xenophobic, Xenophobic."
Nojay: "No, he's 28, I'll tell you why he's going to lose. Cause he's 28 years old and he hasn't done anything with his life. He's a county legislator from the People's Republic, and a health care administrator."
Savage: "Oh."
Nojay: "He got 55% of the vote - "
Gullo: "He's a community organizer as well."
Nojay: "Is he a community organizer? That's why he's gonna lose. That's why he won the Democrat Primary."
Gullo: "No, I,"
Nojay: "He beat, here's what happened on the Democrats. They split the vote between the women. There was a Leslie Danks Burke, she got 37% and a Melissa Dobson, (the song "Sukiyaki starts playing here) and Shinagawa did hey-diddle-diddle-straight-up-the-middle and he got, he got the majority he got the plurality of the vote, so he's going to take on, 28 years old, never created a job, never run a business, never really held public office, other than that, he's a great candidate. Perfect for the Democrats, cause he's about as liberal-he makes, he makes Chuck Schumer look like Ronald Reagan, this guy Shinagawa. If I made a donation to Reed's campaign I wonder if I can get a refund, he doesn't need the money any more. Whoop, now I shouldn't have said that, he's going to get mad at me."
Gullo: "You're going to get a phone call. "
Nojay: "Alright, send money now to Tom Reed's campaign, he'll make good use of it. No, Reed's a great candidate, he does need our help, you can never tell in politics, but let me put it this way, if I had to run against, for Congress, against somebody, in that district, I'd like it to be against Nate Shinagawa, we'll be right back."
Gullo: "He's gonna lose. Just because of his name."

(Sukiyaki song continues until commercial break)
Mayor Shawn Hogan (D, Hornell) is denouncing the Friday Nojay program. "I think it was a definite slap at Nate Shinagawa's Asian heritage, and I don't think there's any place in politics for it, or any place in American society for it." Hogan noted that the comments came from an attempt at humor. "Obviously, I think they were trying to be funny, but I think it went over the top. They weren't funny."
Asian American websites across America are writing about their outrage about the Japanese music and Japanese imitation, calling the show "racist". Also, the Daily Kos is questioning why Shinagawa's opponent, Congressman Tom Reed (R, Corning), has not publicly distanced himself from the Nojay show comments.
Nojay supporters argue that the whole thing is no big deal, unless someone wants to make it into a big deal, and that Nojay did not himself make the offensive comments, but that the guest and co-host were responsible for the worst of that part of the Friday program, and that Nojay is being blamed for what those around him in the studio said.
Canisteo Valley Broadcasting's newstalk station, AM 1480 WLEA, a Nojay affiliate, did not air the portion of the show about Shinagawa on Friday, due to it’s controversial nature.
