Name of Girl Dragged by School Bus is Released
School bus driver placed on administrative leave
State Police have now released the name of the young girl who was accidentally dragged by her school bus on Wednesday afternoon in the town of Ossian.
Police say Haley Heath, 8, was treated at the scene for minor injuries and was taken home by her mother. She was later taken to Noyes Hospital for those injuries. The school bus driver told police he wasn't paying attention when he closed the door on Haley's book bag causing her to be dragged approximately 900 feet.
Another student on the bus, Michael Thomas, 8, was standing up when the driver stopped the bus after hearing students yelling to stop. The boy was treated for an eye injury when he struck the seat in front of him when the bus stopped.
According to reports, the 62 year old school bus driver has been placed on administrative leave while an investigation continues.
State Police say no charges have been filed.
