Hornell Chamberlain Fed Up With Comments From North Hornell Property Owners

July 12, 2011

HORNELL, NY - There's been an on-going dispute between Hornell City Hall and Almond resident Don Hoffman, who owns property in North Hornell. The disagreement is over how much Hornell is charging the Hoffman’s for water, as Hornell provides water service to North Hornell.

The latest in the Hoffman/City Hall situation is that Hornell Chamberlian Thelma Pelych has sent a letter to the Hoffmans, complaining about how the Hoffman's have been writing the phrases like "paid in protest" and more recently “who is embezzling this money?” on the memo line of the checks that the Hoffmans made out to Hornell City Hall for water bill payments.

Mrs. Pelych's letter also says that if Hoffmans keep up the accusations that the case will be turned over to the State Attorney General's Office, for a harassment suit. "I personally object to your remarks on your check to pay your latest water bill," Mrs. Pelych wrote on June 17th. "The employees of this office are conscientious, honest people and do not deserve to be harrassed. For your information, we have kept a file on your accusations and if they continue, this file will be turned over to the State Attorney General's Office for their consideration of a harrassment suit."

The Hoffmans maintain they’re being overcharged for water (double-billed) the Hornell Chamberlain’s office says they should not have to take rude comments from the Hoffmans over billing problems.

This is absurd. Maybe you should contact the Attorney General Thelma maybe that's the only way the Hoffman's will get an answer to the double billing on the water. Anyone with half a brain would know that the Attorney General Office would have to check that out first. Where do you get your information from that it's okay to threaten people with the Office of Attorney General? People have been writing paid under protest and many other things on their checks be happy that the Hoffmans are paying the bill unlike I'm sure others that aren't.

Maybe it's time for the Pelych's and Mayor Hogan to move on and retire and let some new fresh faces save Hornell and lead us into the next century while the are still some company's willing to do business in this city...
