Bishop Clark Approves Keeping St. Ann's School Open

Never really a doubt that he would

Once a special committee raised $146,000, there was little doubt that Bishop Matthew Clark of Rochester would approved keeping St. Ann's School in Hornell open but the official word came Friday in a letter from the bishop to Father Peter Angaalare, pastor of Our Lady of the Valley Parish.

In later 2009, the Diocese or Rochester said the school would have to raise $120,000 in order to keep the school open but the Development Committee, headed by Randy Reagan of Dansville, raised $132,000 in cash and another in stock worth at least $14,000.

Now that same committee is planning ways to keep the school solvent in the future and increase the enrollment.

A representative of the diocese told the Parish Council that once the group raised the money, she had no doubt the bishop would agree to keep the school going.  She added that there are many communities in the diocese which---once faced with possible closing---went to work to save the school and have kept it open for many years.
