COX: CUOMO SHOULD RECUSE HIMSELF FROM THE JOHNSON/STATE POLICE CASE

New York State Attorney General Andrew Cuomo has been asked by Governor David Paterson to look into the accusations that the New York State Police were used to pressure an ex-girlfriend of Dave Johnson, a Paterson aide, to drop assault charges against Johnson.  This has caused to more than one top Republican in New York, including State GOP Chairman Ed Cox, to ask Attorney General Cuomo to recuse himself from the investigation, as Cuomo intends to run for Governor of New York.

"It is something that the attorney general should probably turn over to the D.A., or to someone else to investigate because he obviously has a conflict, in the sense that if he implicates the governor in this, it will look like it's political, and if he doesn't implicate the governor it may look like he (Cuomo) is pulling his punches for other reasons," said Cox.  "There's obvious conflict here, and this should be turned over a completely impartial...I would suggest an independent counsel to look at this, if not a D.A.," Cox told reporter Brian O'Neil.
