State Police Boss Says His Force Not Involved In Patterson Case
STATE POLICE SUPERINTENDENT: STATE POLICE NOT INVOLVED IN JOHNSON CASE
The New York State Police are reacting to the news that Denise O'Donnell resigned from the governor's office.
Ms. O'Donnell is reported to have stepped down from her position because of the reports in the New York Times that the state police put pressure on the ex-girlfriend of Dave Johnson, to drop an assault charge against Johnson.
According to published media reports, the state police superintendent is said to have told Denise O'Donnell that the New York State Police were not involved with the Johnson case. Ms. O'Donnell no longer believes that to be the case, and that's the reason she resigned from handling public safety in the governor's office.
State Police Superintendent Harry Corrbit said, "I do not dispute her description today of my statements to her in January. The State Police was not involved in the investigation of the incident in October 2009. I provided Deputy Secretary O'Donnell with factually correct information, but the conclusions she appeared to draw from these statements were incorrect. I am confident that the investigation of the Attorney General will quickly reveal the nature of the contact between a State Police official and the woman involved in the incident with David Johnson."
