St. Ann's School Will Remain Open
Special emegency fund yields $146,000
For a time in 2009 and early this year it appeared that St. Ann's School of Hornell might have to close at the end of this school year but a special development committee was able to raise over $146,000 to save the school and more money is coming in. The Diocese of Rochester had given the school a goal of $120,000 to keep the St. Ann's open but the committee far exceeded that number.
A representative of the diocese says what happened in Hornell has happened in other communities in the diocese. When people are faced with a financial crisis that could leave to closing, they take immediate action. Some schools in that condition five or more years ago, she said, are still open and growing.
Meanwhile, a committee headed by Randy Regan of Dansville is developing recruitment plans as well as independent fund raising schemes to keep the St. Ann's going and growing in the future.
