Legislature unable to override governor's veto

Last week, Governor Paterson vetoed an ethics reform package that the state legislature approved in January. Then, on Monday, a vote to override the governor's veto failed.

The Albany Times Union is reporting that an override effort DID pass in the state Assembly by a vote of 136-2...but the vote in the state Senate was 35-26, which was 7 votes short of the two-thirds majority needed to override the veto

According to reports, the vetoed bill would have forced lawmakers to disclose more details of their outside income and business dealings, plus it would have reshuffled the agencies that are responsible for enforcing ethics laws and make it easier for the Board of Elections to pursue campaign finance scofflaws.
