Southern Tier Outdoor Show Announces Prize Winners
Douglas Cornell of Savona was recently awarded the grand prize from the 2011 Southern Tier Outdoor Show held in Bath on October 8th-9th. The prize, a one day charter for three people on Lake Ontario with Fishlander Charters, was provided by US Outdoorsman Central, an exhibitor at the show.
Cornell said he enjoys going to a local show of this type and hopes it will be around for a long time. At the 2010 show he bought a "show special" product from the exhibitor who brings a whitetail buck for show visitors to see. “I never would have met that guy in a million years except for the show,” he says. But using the product successfully helped him bag a 9-point buck with his 9-year-old daughter at his side last hunting season.
Winners of the second prize Wild Encounters Birthday Party certificates were Mark Drake, Hammondsport; Jerry Crawford, Wellsboro, PA; Christi Schweigert, Andover; and Sabrina Puryear, Breesport. The certificates allow each winner to celebrate a birthday with the Wildlife Defenders, who presented several animal shows during the outdoor show, for an hour of up close and personal live animal encounters. The animals come from their unique selection of over 30 mammal, reptile, amphibian, bird and invertebrate species.
The 3-D archery competition held at the outdoor show also announced winners of the shoot. 15-year-old Nathan Carney, Horseheads, shot the highest youth score and received a Mathews Mission Craze bow, donated by the Edge of Time Trading Post in Prattsburgh and sponsored by the Finger Lakes Bucks n Beards Prattsburgh Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation which supports youth in the outdoors and preservation of our hunting heritage. Second place in the youth contest went to 12-year-old Brandon Rau, Rochester. Rau won a Block archery target. Third through tenth place went to: Adam Thomas, Pine City; Nathan Brown, Campbell; Ryan Reed, Sayre PA; Rocco Hurlburt, Arkport; Crysta Reed, Sayre PA; Curtis Betty, Bath; Ivy Spas, Painted Post, and William Farnham, Cameron Mills.
In the men’s archery category, the winning score was shot by Zach Bixby, Gillett, PA. He won an Axcel Armortech Sight donated by Barrett’s Bowhunting in Elmira Heights. Second place was taken by Joe Sullivan, Horseheads, for a set of Beha HD video glasses, also donated by Barrett’s Bowhunting. Third through tenth places went to: Chris Kerr, Watkins Glen; Andrew Corbitt, Bath; Bill Petko, Bath; James Crandall, Elkland, PA; Ernie Tillman, Waterloo; Daniel Taft, Dundee; David Faulkrod, Waterloo; and Brad Thacher, Andover.
