Hornell's 2011 Pool & Playground Schedule

          Recreation Director Brian Striker has announced the City of Hornell’s pool and playground schedule for 2011.

          The municipal pool at Veterans Memorial Park will open Tuesday, June 14 through Friday, June 17 from 1:00 pm – 6:00 pm and Saturday and Sunday (June 18 & 19) from 1:00 pm – 5:00 pm.

The pool opens Monday, June 20, on regular summer hours [Monday through Saturday: 10-11:45 a.m. for recreational swimming, noon-1 p.m. for adult lap swimming, 1-4:45 p.m. for recreational swimming, and 5-7:45 p.m. for family swimming; Sunday: noon-5:45 p.m. for recreational swimming].

          The cost for swimming remains the same as last years, 10 cents for city residents, 50 cents for non-residents.

          The City’s six playgrounds will open Monday, June 27. The playgrounds are located at the Stephens Street, Madison Avenue, Veteran’s Memorial Park, Bryant Elementary, Hornell High School and Shawmut Park (in afternoons). The playgrounds are open 9 a.m.-noon and 1-5 p.m.

          In a related matter, those wishing to use the six pavilions at James Street Park or the four pavilions at Shawmut Park are reminded to make reservations. The pavilions are in high demand, especially on weekends. Reservations must be made through the City Clerk’s Office; pavilions are free to Hornell and North Hornell residents, $50 for non-residents.
