Ernie and Andy Lawrence, Saturday, February 27th
Black-Eyed Susan Acoustic Café, Angelica
Black-Eyed Susan Acoustic Café is proud to present father-and-son duo Ernie and Andy Lawrence on Saturday, February 27th, 2010. Café doors open at 4:30 for dinner with music beginning at 7:30.
The Lawrence’s play folk music with deep roots in the blues, and throw in some jazz, old country, gospel, and rock-n-roll. Each sings and performs on acoustic guitar, trading off the lead vocals and the lead guitar.
They have played at Rochester’s Corn Hill and Park Avenue Festivals, the Naples Grape Festival, at the Wellsville Creative Arts Center, and have played shows for The Buffalo Friends of Folk Music and The Golden Link Folksinging Society. The Lawrence’s have also opened for national acts in Buffalo and Rochester.
Father and son performing together? To Andy, “It’s just another dimension of my relationship with my father. No matter what is happening in the family, we can sit down with our guitars and connect that way.” Ernie concurs. “It isn’t always easy to do this work with a family member, but there is a certain artistic chemistry that exists between us as father and son, and as a consequence of the many hours we have played together. This relationship is woven into our craft.”
Don Ash of Black-Eyed Susan Acoustic Café said, “On February 27 we welcome back Ernie and Andy Lawrence for a benefit concert to help cover the operating expenses of a small orphanage of 12 deaf children in Zambia. Ernie will explain the connection between former Rochester Red Wings and Baltimore Orioles player Bob Bonner and these children. Join us for hot blues on a cold February night for a good cause. All of the Lawrence’s tips for this performance will be used to support the children at the orphanage.”
The doors at Black-Eyed Susan open for dinner, specialty coffees and desserts at 4:30 every Saturday. Enjoy the mellow sounds of JIM SCHWARTZ on guitar at 6:00, with ERNIE AND ANDY beginning at 7:30 p.m. There is no cover charge, but guests are expected to contribute to the musician’s tip jar. The kitchen remains open on Saturdays until 10:00 p.m. and the café closes at 11:00. Reservations for dinner -- while never necessary -- are strongly encouraged.
Upcoming events include: AARON HALL AND FRIENDS performing folk and original music on violin, guitar, and bass with vocals on Mar. 6th; an evening of Afro Celtic rock music with GEORGE HOCHBREUCKNER on Mar. 13th; and folk and acoustic rock music with JONNY GEEZE on Mar. 20th.
