Christine V. Donlon – 62 – of 6282 Gypsy Hill Road, Hornell, died Friday evening (February 5, 2010) at her home, surrounded by her family, following a long illness.
Born in Hornell on February 12, 1947, she was the daughter of Floyd & Helen (Hooper) Egmond.
Christine resided in Virginia for several years and graduated from high school in Great Bridge, VA in 1965. In 1968 she graduated from DePaul School of Nursing in Norfolk, VA.
For several years she was employed as a nurse at St. James Mercy Hospital and also the former Bethesda Community Hospital. She returned to school and received her Bachelor’s Degree in Behavioral Health from Empire State College. She became a credential addiction counselor for Steuben County Alcohol & Substance Abuse Service, retiring in February, 2009.
Christine was a member of Our Lady of the Parish and had been a communicant of St. Ignatius Loyola Church where she sang in the church choir. Most recently she was a communicant of
St. Mary’s Church of Rexville.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Kay Christiano and Monica Westcott; and her brother, Jerry Egmond.
She was married on December 27, 1969 to Joseph Donlon who survives. Also surviving are 3 sons, Joseph (Julie) Donlon of Colorado, Jeremy Donlon of Hornell and Stephen (Kelly) Donlon of Hornell; 5 sisters, Patricia (Harold) Severin, Mary Gottko, Ruth (Gerald) Canty, Thelma (Robert) Burd and Helen Egmond, 1 brother, George (Linda) Egmond; grandchildren, Breccan, Ryann, McKenna, Brogan & Katen; several nieces & nephews.
The family of Christine V. Donlon will receive friends on Monday (February 8th) from 2 – 4 PM & 7 – 9 PM at the Dagon Funeral Home, 38 Church St., Hornell, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at 10:00 AM at St. Ann’s Church with burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
Christine’s family request that memorial contributions in her name be made to Southern Tier Hospice, 11751 East Corning Road, Corning, NY 14830. Memorial forms will be available at the Dagon Funeral Home.
