Senator Winner honored as Republican of the Year.

The Hornell City Republican Committee hosted its 68th Annual Lincoln Day Dinner Thursday night at the Hornell Knights of Columbus.

The Keynote speaker for the evening was 2006 GOP Governor Candidate and former NYS Assembly Minority Leader John Faso who spoke with us before the event and said that the biggest problem in Albany now is an inability to control spending which drives taxes up and businesses out.

Other elected officials in attendance included: State Senator George Winner, Assemblyman Jim Bacalles, Justice Hank Scudder, and many other county and local elected officials. The Master of Ceremonies for the evening was radio talk show host, Bill Nojay.

Corning Mayor Tom Reed, who is running to unseat Eric Massa as the Congressman in the 29th District, received ample applause and cheers when he was introduced.

The Hornell City Republican Committee, led by president John Buckley, presented the "Republican of the Year" award to State Senator George Winner for helping to lead the Republican revolt last year in Albany.  The minority Republicans, with the help of two Democratic State Senators, made an effort to take control of the chamber in response to the State's budget deficit and other issues.
