Even though Governor Andrew Cuomo worked to get gay marriage passed in New York State last June, the archbishop of New York is in opposition to the new law. Archbishop Timothy Dolan has issued a decree saying that no Catholic clergyman in New York State can perform a gay wedding. Also, there can be no gay marriages on Catholic Church property, and Catholic Church employees are forbidden to take part in homosexual marriage ceremonies that take place outside of Catholic Church property. Dolan also indicated in his decree, that anyone who breaks the rules will be subject to Church discipline.
