In the front part of the building there was a small store. In 1946, Mamie and Nino Randazzo plus Angelo and Josephine Cartella bought the building, remodeled it into a restaurant, operated it for six months and sold it to Tony and Joe Buono. Tony and Joe bought the Sunset “Inn” in September 1946. They specialized in Italian food and were the first to introduce pizza to the Hornell area. They were also the first to have take-out service for Italian food. In 1955, Carolyn and James George, with partners Mr. and Mrs. Walter Padgett, bought out Mrs. George’s brother and sister-in-law (Tony and Joe Buono) on June 1, 1955. Mr. and Mrs. George bought out their partners Mr. and Mrs. Padgett on June 1, 1959. All sauces, pizza and pasta recipes that are used in this restaurant today came to the United States through Carolyn George’s mother (Mrs. Catherine Buono) from Tito (Province of Potenza) Italy. Through the cooking expertise of Carolyn George, the business prospered and in 1965, a second dining room was built. Carolyn became the sole owner of the Sunset Inn upon the death of her husband in 1983. Upon her retirement the business was taken over by Robert and Carol Stewart. In July 2003, Thomas and Marcia Davis purchased the Sunset Inn, changing the name to the Sunset Restaurant.
