2009 EEO report
FEB 2009 EEO REPORT
In the past year, WLEA-AM and WCKR-FM have had no job openings in the period of Feb 2009 through the present. In fact, given the national and local economic picture, we anticipate some staff cuts. This report is the combined statement for WLEA-AM (facility ID 52841) and WCKR-FM (facility ID 52842). The staff consists of five full-time and 3 part-time positions.
Our full-time staff tends to be very stable and ranges in years of service from 4 to 50 with others showing 9, 34, 14 years of service. Since we have practically no turnover, we seldom have openings.
Being committed to a strong local news presence, the cuts will not be made in the news department but management must seriously considering other staff changes. Nevertheless, we have aired our usual EEO announcement (which is attached) although these announcements have never brought us any applicants.
One staff change which has already gone into effect is that of morning announcer on the FM station (WCKR). This will be replaced by automated announcements in keeping with the rest of the broadcast day on WCKR.
Despite the issues discussed above, we still have stayed in touch with area colleges and universities and took part in a state sponsored JOB FAIR in Bath, NY. The job fair did bring forth one possible candidate for future sales openings but the party did not seem interested in re-locating in our area. Nothing came of this discussion.
Colleges and universities contacted include: Alfred University and State Univ. at Alfred, State University Buffalo and State University Geneseo.
We have not received any applicants from these institutes.
Job openings are also placed with NYS BROADCASTERS and on our news websites….www.wlea.net and wckr.com.
